Safety on Course

Getting lost

The course will be super well marked, but fatigued runners tend to develop tunnel vision.

Keep your wits about you and keep an eye out for pink and orange markings/ribbons/cones on course.

Digital maps have been provided to participants, but familiarising yourself with the course beforehand could save you a lot of time on the day.

Ideally, bring a mobile phone on the Telstra network so you can contact others. (Telstra appears to have the best coverage).

On the reverse of the timing bib provided will be the mobile phone numbers for the Race Director and Medical Team Leader, who may be able to help orientate you or assist.

Leaving the Course

Entrants who leave the course during the event eg. for a toilet stop, getting lost or meeting up with support people; must re-enter the course at the point they left the course. Lost entrants may use any legal method to get back to the course, but must re-enter where they left and resume running from that point.

Medical Support and First Aid by Endurance Medical Services

Endurance Medical Services (EMS) is the official medical and safety provider of the Buffalo Stampede Festival. EMS provides exceptional medical support services for outdoor events all year round and they will support all athletes on-course during all events.

On the reverse of the timing bib provided will be the mobile phone numbers for the Race Director and Medical Team Leader, who may be able to help orientate or assist you on course if needed.

EMS will also provide medical care near the start / finish line for the duration of the event.

Sweepers

A sweeper will be deployed onto the course with the aim of ensuring there’s no one left on the course unaccounted for and to advise race officials where the last athlete is on course.

If you leave the trail at any time, please leave your pack on the trail so the sweeper doesn’t go past you.

Traffic Management & Right of Way

The intersection of Buckland Valley Road, Harris Road and Egglestons Lane is actively managed by traffic controllers throughout the event on Saturday and Sunday.

There will be a small number of other road crossings. Speed limit reduction and warning signs will be employed, but be aware you may be delayed a minute. Beware of cars. Traffic Controllers will endeavour to assist you in crossing, but you should stay alert.

Cyclists – Watch out for them!

As Bright and surrounds is a very, very popular cycling area and the event will be held during the school holidays, athletes are reminded to take extra caution and check for cyclists when running along or crossing roads.

NOTE: Riders can travel very quietly and at very high speeds, especially when descending Mount Buffalo Tourist Road. You will not necessarily ‘hear’ them, so please take extra care.
